Food Preparation:
Prepare and cook food according to the hotel’s menu and guests' dietary needs.
Ensure that all meals are prepared with consistency, portion control, and presentation standards.
Set up stations with all necessary supplies, including ingredients, tools, and equipment.
Follow recipes, cooking techniques, and presentation standards set by the hotel or restaurant.
Kitchen Maintenance:
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and food prep areas.
Follow safety standards and sanitation guidelines to ensure food safety ( HACCP)
Clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces regularly.
Ensure kitchen stock levels are maintained and inform management of shortages.
Quality Control:
Monitor food quality and ensure it meets the hotel's standards for taste, appearance, and portioning.
Adjust cooking techniques as needed based on guest feedback or preferences.
Perform quality checks on ingredients and finished dishes to ensure freshness and presentation.
Teamwork:
Work closely with other kitchen staff, including the sous chef, line cooks, and dishwashers.
Communicate effectively with waitstaff and kitchen management regarding order preparation and timing.
Assist in training new kitchen staff and apprentices.
Stock Control and Ordering:
Assist in receiving and storing food and supplies.
Help in stock rotation to ensure that food products are used before expiration.
Report any kitchen supply shortages to management.
Health and Safety Compliance:
Follow all health and safety regulations regarding food handling, cooking, and storage.
Maintain safe working conditions in the kitchen, ensuring proper use of equipment
Participate in safety drills and keep up-to date with any changes in safety regulations.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Culinary Arts certification or technical, trade, vocational school degree preferred).
Experience: Prior experience in a similar position is preferred (1-3 years). Experience in a hotel kitchen or restaurant required.
Skills:
Knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen equipment.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills and teamwork ability.
Attention to detail, especially with food presentation and cleanliness.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to lift heavy items (up to 25–50 pounds) as needed.
Ability to work in a hot, noisy, and sometimes stressful environment.
Typically, hotel cooks work in the kitchen during regular shifts, which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
You may be required to work with hot surfaces, knives, and various kitchen equipment.
