VACANCY FOR ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT TREASURY DEPARTMENT MINISTRY OF FINANCE Applications are invited from suitably qualified Bahamians to fill the vacancy of ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT positions in the Treasury Department (New Providence, Grand Bahama and the Family Islands), Ministry of Finance. Applicants must be domiciled in the respective island, as housing will not be provided. Requirements for the post: Applicants must possess: “Associate’s Degree in Accounting (from an institution accredited for Government’s purposes), with a minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience; OR Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (from an institution accredited for Government’s purposes).” Preference will be given to persons with the Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, but consideration will be given to persons with Associate’s Degree in Accounting with strong prospects. Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post include: i. Reconciling Vendors’ Accounts. ii. Processing Requisitions and Purchase Orders in the Treasury Financial Management System. iii. Processing payments for Vendors. iv. Preparing Journal Vouchers and Appropriation Transfer Warrants for submission to Treasury. v. Liaising with Travel Agencies relative to officers’ travel arrangements. vi. Processing payment of travel subsistence, for officers travelling on Government business to the Family Islands and abroad. vii. Receiving and clearing Travel Expense Reports. viii. Distributing General/Office Supplies. ix. Assisting with processing of Weekly and Monthly Payroll. x. Assisting with the processing of Weekly and Monthly Payroll. xi. Collecting and posting revenue in the Treasury Cash Receipting System. xii. Responding to queries from Vendors. xiii. Assisting with the preparation of Monthly Expenditure and Revenue Reports. xiv. Maintaining all Financial Registers. xv. Performing any other duties, as necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the Accounts Section. Salaries will be competitive and based on years of experience and qualifications. Successful candidates will be appointed on contractual terms of two (2) years (with gratuity payable upon satisfactory completion of the contractual period).
