HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC
This position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of all cranes, forklifts, trucks, chassis, top lifters and other cargo handling equipment.
Applicant Should Be Able to Carry Out the Following Tasks:
The individual is expected to learn the safe operating practices for all of the yard equipment assigned to the HEO team and be proficient in its operation.
The individual will be required to learn the safe operating SOP’s for all crane and equipment operations
The individual will be required to learn and understand the operation of Mobile Harbor Crane and yard equipment in accordance with all safety regulations.
Diagnoses problems, repairs or replaces parts on any of the mechanical systems found in company equipment including brake systems, cooling systems, drive systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, exhaust or emission systems, heating and air condition systems, steering or suspension systems, and coupling devises.
Inspects equipment and identifies parts necessary for repairs. Sources parts from local vendors as needed.
Performs routine maintenance on all equipment including checking and adjusting fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires and clutches. Changes filters, oil and lubricates equipment as needed.
Troubleshoots malfunctions in equipment. Works with equipment manufacturer or equipment vendor to resolve unusual issues.
Works on diesel and gasoline engines. Replaces, rebuilds or overhauls engines or engine components.
Operates or road tests equipment after repairs are made to ensure the unit is in proper operational condition and meets all operational and safety standards.
Must become competent in all aspects of rigging and signaling.
Participates in pre-shift Operations meetings as per SOP.
Documents all work completed including listing all parts or materials used.
Assists in inventory counts as necessary.
Performs all other duties as requested.
Hiring Requirements (Education, experience, certifications, etc.)
Experience in working on cranes or other cargo handling equipment
Experience in working with sophisticated electrical/computerized equipment
High School Diploma
Experience of at least 5 years as a skilled mechanic
Some experience in the repair of heavy equipment
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Knowledge of the mechanical systems found in cargo handling equipment
Knowledge of the standard practices used to diagnose and repair equipment breakdowns
Knowledge of the safe operation and use of equipment
Skills in problem solving and troubleshooting
Ability to read manuals and schematics, Electrical and Hydraulic
Must understand the integration of computer control technology with the hydraulic and mechanical functions of the crane.
Ability to diagnose equipment failures, mechanical, electrical and hydraulic malfunctions
Able to use electronic and hydraulic testing equipment
Ability to observe the operation of equipment and ensure compliance in meeting operational and safety standards
Skills in the use of mechanical tools as well as hand tools
Skills in the use of diagnostic testing and tuning equipment
Good communication skills
Attention to detail
Good interpersonal skills
Good recordkeeping skills
Ability to stand for extended periods of time
Able to climb, bend, stoop, and squat
Capable of lifting 50 pounds
Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions for extended periods

Responsible to Assistant Site Engineer for operation, maintenance and repair of the ventilation, provision, galley and bar equipment, (where applicable) and all air conditioning equipment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Be advised that RCL places the highest value on the environment, and all Island employees shall do the same. Those assigned to this position shall work with superiors and subordinates to understand and comply with the company's environmental policies and be committed to safeguard the environment. He shall directly and immediately inform immediate Assistant Site Engineer of any environmental system does not function properly.
Ensure that all ventilation, cooling, freezing equipment, cooling equipment and all air conditioning equipment is kept in full and proper working condition.
Assist the Assistant Site Engineer in training of the personnel in his division in safety procedures and assigned duties.
Assist the Assistant Site Engineer in proper maintenance and repair of all refrigerators, walk in coolers, cold water drinking fountains, mini-bar (with refrigerant gas), ice making machines.
Assist the Assistant Site Engineer in the proper maintenance and condition of the Island safety systems: Hood fire suppression system and remote shut down and for all air-conditioning and ventilation ducts.
Additional routines and work as assigned by Assistant Site Engineer.
Formal education within HVAC & Refrigeration.
Minimum three years of experience within Industrial or Commercial Refrigeration, Heating, Ventilation and Air condition.
Education or working experience within Automation & Electronics preferred.
Have good mechanical skills, use of power tools and welding equipment preferred.
All island employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills.
Full use/range of motion of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency.
Must be able to stand in the sun and endure external elements during work assignment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Outdoors may be required to walk in extreme humid and hot conditions.
