Position Summary:

The Island Site Manager provides guidance and strategic direction for the entire Island Leadership Team to deliver the long-term vision of Royal Caribbean and the Private Destination Islands. This role is responsible for their operational success through the effective day-to-day management and focus on delivering a safe, high quality, and exceptional guest experience.

The Island Site Manager will work closely with other departments to ensure they meet their targets and collaborate accordingly when it comes to achieving results. They will effectively assist the Island General Manager and Leadership Team achieve the Islands objectives and promote Royal Caribbean’s culture, strategy, and policy to all employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Be a positive, consistent, and fair role model of Royal Caribbean culture.
  • Motivate, influence, and support others to accomplish personal, departmental, and company goals.
  • Consistently communicate with direct reports to provide guidance and enable resources to exceed Guest and Employee expectations.
  • Liaise and actively communicate with Island Leadership, Ship Leadership, and Corporate Office to deliver objectives and exceed Guest and Employee expectations.
  • Track the performance of the business through key performance indicators, financial reports, survey results, and direct Guest and Employee feedback.
  • Meet business key performance indicators and implement strategic plans & objectives that support continuous improvement.
  • Encourage and enable all Employees to deliver key business results.
  • Propose and implement solutions to ensure high level of product quality and Guest satisfaction.
  • Ensure good working conditions and availability of equipment and facilities, proper resources, and optimum capacity to exceed Guest expectations and achieve company objectives.
  • Implement organizational, product, and services changes ensuring all changes are communicated effectively, supported with resources, trained, and positively promoted by all Island Leaders.
  • Delegate and empower the team with clearly defined responsibility and authority.
  • Be accessible to both Guests and Employees during Call Days by actively walking around the site and overseeing the operation in all areas.

Administration

  • Accountable for the overall management and administration of the site operation including maintaining of accurate records and inventories as well as the performance of all other administrative duties as required by Royal Caribbean.
  • Ensure policies, processes, and procedures are always known and available to both Leaders and Employees.
  • Ensure Island Leaders consistently maintain records and communicate results to Employees.
  • Review, assess, and update the SQM and all other documents on an annual basis or when any changes are implemented.
  • Report all key results to the Corporate Office on a timely basis.

Safety

  • Drive safety culture by regularly reviewing and adjusting the department’s efforts to train, practice, respond, and document emergency incidents.
  • Conduct regular evacuation drills and table top exercises with Risk Management and Island Leadership.
  • Ensure Risk Management and Health & Safety initiatives are taken to improve Guest and Employee safety.
  • Ensure Health and Safety issues are reported, root cause solutions are identified, and corrective action measures are taken.
  • Ensure all departments consistently deliver safety training and provide employees with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Manage emergency situations that may arise in order to minimize possible damage, loss, or injury to any Guests, Employees, or company property.
  • Ensure Guest and Employee safety is the highest priority by working with Risk Management to develop and implement safety programs, documents, and trainings.
  • Drive safety culture by regularly reviewing and adjusting the department’s efforts to train, practice, respond, and document emergency incidents.
  • Ensure incidents and near misses are documented, investigated, and corrective action is taken, when required, to reduce the likelihood of reoccurrence.
  • Ensure Employees are properly trained and always utilize safety equipment to prevent workplace injuries and accidents.

Human Resources & Training

  • Support the Human Resources Manager with the hiring and development of all Island Employees.
  • Work with Human Resources and Island Leadership to identify training needs per position, develop training program for each role and departments, and implement additional modules as needed.
  • Ensure all Island Leaders are actively managing payroll and payroll related budgets according to business needs.
  • Ensure Human Resources and Island Leadership comply with the disciplinary policy and are consistent in their approach to performance and conduct improvement.
  • Ensure all Employees are accurately onboarded, continuously trained, and appraised on a timely basis.
  • Ensure Back-of-House Facilities and Accommodation are cared for, maintained, and meet the needs of Employees and Island Leaders.
  • Responsible for the welfare and good conduct of all Employees and Island Leaders.
  • Ensure Employee Engagement Activities are planned and executed throughout the year.

Finance

  • Effectively manage departmental budgets and resources to deliver the profit targets for the entire island.
  • Assist with the development of meaningful and achievable budgets aligned with the company’s strategic goals.
  • Monitor and analyze revenue and expense management to ensure targets are achieved.
  • Consistently analyze finances to identify areas for improvement and take immediate action.
  • Monitor island sales techniques to maximize revenue generation and ensure high customer service levels.
  • Understand the commercial objectives of the company and ensure Employees know their individual responsibilities to achieve the company’s desired results.
  • Monitor ordering and purchasing needed for operation on Private Destinations, communicates with supply chain, logistics, and vendors when needed.
  • Look for opportunities for improvement of products and standards and introduction of new revenue opportunities.
  • Actively seek and implement cost saving programs to provide positive financial results.

Property Management

  • Maintain building, facilities, equipment, and supplies in order to minimize damage, reduce waste, and control costs.
  • Responsible for ensuring Leaders actively complete Planned Preventative Maintenance schedules, regular safety inspections, certification requirements, and record keeping.
  • Responsible for the general maintenance of the site and all its buildings as well as onsite technical maintenance of plant and machinery including electrical, fuel, and water installations.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of all site vehicles and equipment.
  • Responsible for the safe keeping and good order of all tools and technical operating equipment in use on the site.

Qualifications:

  • Higher Secondary or equivalent.
  • 7+years of experience in roles of increasing responsibility in resort, island, ship, or park operations.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Worked in a medium to large organization.
  • Managed senior managers/business leaders.
  • Experience in Crisis Management.
  • Project Management; coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong Leadership skills and Fluent in English.
  • Good communication skills, Computer skills; able to prepare basic reports in excel, presentations in PowerPoint.
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills.
  • Advance computer literacy in MS Office, procurement, Internet.
  • Knowledge of policies and practices involved in the human resources function.
  • Ability to supervise international staff in a positive and productive manner by motivating, developing and managing Employees as they work.
  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially.
  • Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures – this includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and co-workers.

  • Ability to see, hear, speak, comprehend, and communicate.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
  • Ability to reach and bend.
  • Ability to walk upstairs.
  • Exposure to noise, cleaning chemicals, and dust.
  • Exposure to extreme outdoor temperatures.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.
  • On occasion, may be required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crawl.
