Position Summary:

The Assistant Site Engineer is the Site Engineer’s principal assistant in all matters pertaining to the operation, maintenance and administration of the Engineering Division. He is the daily Foreman of the plant and oversees the performance of routine maintenance and repairs. Under the direction of the Site Engineer assigns, directs, and supervises the daily work. Oversees the operation related to plant, power, sanitation, pools, Water Park and facility. Assigns and performs duties as necessary to ensure the Island Resort is a safe working environment and in operational readiness both front and back of house facilities. Always follows procedures, rules and regulations as defined in the SQM system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Duties and Responsibilities will automatically be transferred to the Assistant Site Engineer in the event of the Site Engineer becoming incapacitated e.g. due to illness.
  • Supervises and trains and employees in operation, repair and maintenance of equipment; and on the use and interpretation of the SQM system.
  • Plans and executes all preventative and scheduled maintenance, weekly, monthly and emergency repairs to the plant and site.
  • Maintains accurate maintenance records of all Island machinery in digital format and follows necessary procedures to maintain or overhaul machinery. 
  • Reports directly to the Site Engineer and keeps him informed regarding the material status of the engineering plant and all water park associated venues, care and maintenance of the potable water system including recreational spas and the swimming pools. By the term “potable water system” we cover all bunkering, storing and distribution arrangements of potable water including the spas.
  • Responsible for overseeing the company’s environmental policies, procedures and systems.
  • This individual also provides expertise to Shore side, serves as the Island subject matter expert on environmental regulations to ensure the site is in compliance with applicable local, state, regional, federal, port state, flag state and international environmental laws and regulations, as well as, applicable Company policies. 
  • All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with the Company's Safety, Quality and Environmental standards.
  • Partners with relevant operational leaders to develop systems, work practices and procedures with an environmental and/or public health impact.

  • Expected to manage the Technical Budget, make appropriate recommendations for efficiency.
  • Be able to analyze, and interpret the financials set forth.
  • Create recommendations based on historical data.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Responsible for meeting or exceeding all KPIs that are directly influenced by this role.
  • Ensures service standards, Safety, Environmental and other company policies and standards are consistently maintained.
  • Supports team’s Public Health needs by assisting with the implementation of plans and programs (e.g. OPP; IPM; Water Safety Plan, including potable and recreational waters; Public Health.
  • Supports safety through various activities such as participation in drills.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelors degree of Science.
  • Experience as an Engineer on board a cruise ship, or land based resort, with the relevant certificates strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated environmental background/experience.
  • Previous experience with emergency response including command and control preferred.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and ability to work in multicultural environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of environmentally related engineering equipment and systems.
  • Knowledge of marine regulations/standards including ISM, MARPOL, NPDES and ISO 14001.
  • Effectively communicates a solid understanding of current maritime environmental issues and topics.
  • Highly organized with ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a high pressure environment.
  • Strong administrative skills and working knowledge of computers, internet access and the ability to navigate within a variety of software packages such as Excel, Word, AMOS and other related programs.
  • Ability to interpret ship's plans and prints, draw engineering plans and prepare job orders. 
  • Good communication/social skills.
  • Ability to plan projects, assign priorities, resolve problems and to work without supervision.
  • Excellent English reading and writing skills required.
  • All employees must be able to communicate in the English language in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

  • All employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills.
  • Full use and range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency.
  • The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Environment on the Island in an outdoor environment where high temperature and humid temperatures are experienced.
