POSITION SUMMARY:
The Laundry Attendant is responsible for the day-to-day laundry requirements for the Destination. This position provides support and laundry service for the uniforms, linens, and towels. The Laundry Attendant maintains the cleaning and upkeep of the Team Member Laundry Rooms and the Main Laundry Facility. This role ensures sufficient stock of linens supplies on the Destination. The Laundry Attendant requires impeccable knowledge of cleaning, washing, bleaching, sanitizing, drying, and ironing processes, customer service focus, attention to detail, multitasking, knowledge of the product and service standards.
All duties and responsibilities are performed following Royal Caribbean International’s Brand Standards, the Royal Way philosophy, Company policies, SOPs, Public Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental Guidelines. All Team Members may be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned by their Supervisor or Management. The nature of this job requires daily interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintains the cleanliness of the designated areas and follows Public Health regulations.
• Washes and sanitizes worktables, walls, equipment, and all related surfaces and counters in Team Member Laundry Rooms and the Main Laundry Facility. Sweeps and mops floor. Reports any challenges to the Lead.
• Utilizes proper Public Health sanitation procedures at all times.
• Uses washing and drying machines, irons, and other laundry equipment.
• Calculates the linens, towels, uniforms drop-off rotation, and makes suggestions to the Lead and Manager to improve laundry operations efficiency and practicality.
• Monitors the quality of all cleaned laundry.
• Performs daily walkthrough of the Main Laundry and Team Member Laundry Rooms to ensure cleanliness. Checks machines to ensure they are in good working condition and pays attention to any operational, safety, hazardous material storage, or environmental concerns. Reports any findings to the Lead.
• Maintains accurate inventory of laundry items and amenities according to assigned par and up to date record keeping.
• Reports damaged laundry equipment to the Lead.
• Ensures that all safety checks are completed daily and recorded in the checklist.
• Maintains a clean and safe workplace, adheres to Company policies regarding Public Health, PPE, and Chemical Management.
• Ensures all linens, towels, and uniforms are stored safely, accurately, and easily accessible.
• Collects and transports a variety of laundry supplies between storage and work areas.
• Participates in trainings and meetings. Adheres to a Company confidentiality agreement.
• Acknowledges and greets Guests, Visitors, and Team Members in public spaces with a warm, friendly greeting.
• Ensures personal appearance, personal hygiene, and uniform appearance are always by Company policy. Maintains a safe and sanitary environment for Guests and fellow Team Members.
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Monitors and maintains an inventory of all laundry chemicals and supplies.
• Completes and submits weekly requisition of all laundry chemicals and supplies to the Lead.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• School Diploma or equivalent vocational training.
• Previous experience in laundry operations in the 4–5-star hotel or cruise ship.
• Ability to operate domestic and industrial washing machines, dryers, irons, and other laundry equipment. Understands various stains, stain removal techniques, chemical reactions. Ability and skills to differentiate fabrics.
• Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently.
• Effective verbal and written communications skills.
• Ability to work positively and cooperatively in a diverse international team environment.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with Guests, Team Members, Contractors, and Vendors.
• Ability to read and write English, to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from Guests, Managers, and Team Members.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste and smell. The Team Member must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• All Destination Team Members must be physically able to participate in emergency life-saving procedures and drills. Full use/range of motion of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal, and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Destination outdoor environment where high temperature, precipitation, and humid temperatures are experienced.
• While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is required to work outdoors in extremely humid and hot conditions for an extended time, indoors, walking in sand and uneven surfaces.
