POSITION SUMMARY:
The Heavy Machinery Operator is responsible for the safe operation of different types of vehicles and machinery which include but are not limited to bulldozers, forklifts, backhoes, dump trucks, cargo trucks, trams, beach rakes, and hydraulic truck cranes. This position is required to conduct duties in a safe and diligent manner. Steady hands, feet, and eyesight are vital in this role. This role is committed to a safety-first culture to ensure optimum safety for Guests, Visitors, and Team Members. Safety of pedestrians is paramount at all times when moving any vehicle to the destination.
All duties and responsibilities are performed following Royal Caribbean International’s Brand Standards, the Royal Way philosophy, Company policies, and SOPs, Public Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental Guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Drives and controls heavy equipment and machinery manually and using electronic/technical methods of operation.
• Creates level surfaces, grades slopes to specifications, removes material, and thoroughly fills voids using plans.
• Operates heavy equipment to move materials safely and according to the project guidelines.
• Maneuvers motorized heavy equipment to ensure safe removal and placement of materials.
• Demonstrates effective teamwork and collaboration, and time management skills.
• Supports others with the driving of trams, rakes, and tractors.
• Operates the equipment in the right direction and angles to prevent accidents and damage to property.
• Loads and offloads rocks, debris, equipment, and other materials from heavy equipment.
• Changes machinery attachments, adjusts to job specifics, verifies information, and troubleshoots problems.
• Observes stipulated safety codes, rules, and procedures. Practices safety first, estimates weights and distances, stays aware of surroundings to minimize hazards. Reports injuries or damage to the property immediately.
• Reads work orders and maintains records of work progress for communication with the Management Team.
• Discusses complications with Management and brainstorm solutions for increased productivity.
• Uses clear, concise, and professional communication in person, over the radio, and in written format.
• Maintains an orderly and clean work area, with all tools in good repair.
• Adheres to all Company policies regarding, Driving with Safety, PPE, and Chemical Management.
• Sets up and closes working areas as per schedule or as instructed by the Management Team.
• Participates in trainings and meetings. Adheres to a Company confidentiality agreement.
• Follows the destination’s grooming standards. Ensures personal appearance, hygiene, and uniform appearance are always in accordance with Company policy. Maintains a safe and sanitary environment for Guests and the Team.
• Acknowledges and greets Guests, Visitors, and Team Members in public spaces with a warm, friendly greeting.
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Cleans, maintains, and services the equipment to increase its lifespan. Stores the machinery at its designated location.
• Ensures timely schedule of preventive maintenance with support of the Technical Team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• A High School Diploma or basic education is required.
• Heavy Machinery Operator/Driver License or Commercial Driving License is required. A driving license is a must. License and training to operate heavy equipment and machinery are required. Crane Operators License preferred.
• Previous Experience as Heavy Machinery Operator/Driver in construction sites.
• Good interpersonal skills to communicate with all levels of Team Members.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to apply common sense.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities, and work without supervision.
• Ability to work positively and cooperatively in a diverse international Team environment.
• Ability to maintain focus, work with strict deadlines, multitask and be flexible and adaptable.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with Guests, Team Members, Contractors, and Vendors.
• Ability to read and write English, to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from Guests, Managers, and Team Members.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste and smell. The Team Member must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• All destination Team Members must be physically able to participate in emergency life-saving procedures and drills. Full use/range of motion of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal, and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency.
