POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Lifeguard is responsible to monitor and operate designated aquatic recreational facilities: pools, water slides, attractions, and beaches to ensure the safety of Guests, Visitors, and Team Members. This role focuses on Guest safety, responds to any type of emergency, and performs lifesaving procedures. The Senior Lifeguard supports the Lead in all operational aspects, cleans pools, replenishes emergency equipment, reinforces safety procedures, ensures all beaches are Guest-ready. This position requires excellent Guest engagement, concentration, strong swimming skills, the ability to provide CPR/First Aid, knowledge of products and services. All duties and responsibilities are performed following Royal Caribbean International’s Brand Standards, the Royal Way philosophy, Company policies, and SOPs, Public Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental Guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operates aquatic recreation facilities, including beaches, and provides surveillance of swimmers as per Lifeguard Operations Manuals. Monitors water activity and ensures no guests travel beyond the designated buoy lines.
• Stays alert around aquatic recreational facilities to prevent injuries and assists the Guests when required.
• Follows the schedule, rotation, and stays on position until released by another Lifeguard or Lead.
• Maintains Senior Lifeguard qualification and licenses, fitness level, swimming, rescue, and CPR/First Aid skills.
• Participation regular training, including but not limited to Lifeguard training, CPR/First Aid, AED, reoccurring in-service training, re-certifications, etc. Follows PPE and Chemical Management regulations.
• Deals with stressful situations and post-incident stress management.
• Leads in-service and teaches Lifeguard courses (applicable for Lifeguards who are also SGE instructors only).
• Provides Lifeguard coverage for the events on Destination.
• Assists other departments with projects with approval from Lifeguard Operations Manager.
• Maintains Lifeguard storage areas in an organized and clean condition.
• Opens and closes the umbrellas around aquatic recreation facilities every call day or as required by the Management.
•Distributes equipment to various locations as instructed by the Lead (designated and approved drivers only).
• Participates in trainings and meetings. Adheres to a Company confidentiality agreement.
• Acknowledges and greets Guests, Visitors, and Team Members in public spaces with a warm, friendly greeting.
• Ensures personal appearance, personal hygiene, and uniform appearance are always by Company policy. Maintains a safe and sanitary environment for Guests and fellow Team Members. Waterpark, Pools & Beaches
• Follows all opening and closing procedures outlined by the department to ensure the safe operation of rides, slides, attractions, and pools. Always rescue ready and promotes a safety-first culture.
• Follows all ELITE dispatch procedures and dispatches riders in a fun, safe and friendly manner.
• Operates slides and attractions according to manufacturers' guidelines.
• Cleans the slides, removes sand from runouts, scrubs scum lines from runouts, brushes/blows sand off slide towers, pressure washes algae from the slide towers.
• Cleans the aquatic attractions, removes sand & natural debris from splash pads, pressure washes play structures.
• Assists with maintenance of the attractions by glossing & waxing the slides and re-attaching loose lily pads.
• Cleans the pools, removes sand & natural debris from pools, cleans scum lines, scrubs tiles, cleans coping around pool edges, uses chemicals to clean pool surfaces, pressure washes pool walls.
• Rakes the sand as scheduled around dedicated aquatic recreation facilities.
• Sanitizes pool railings as required following daily OPP+ level.
• Runs the virtual queue. Manages the crowd and queue on slide towers.
• Assists Guests who do not meet rider requirements in a discrete and polite manner.
• Provides accurate information regarding slide rules and queue wait times.
• Works with Senior Cabana Attendants to enforce rules in a friendly and polite manner within Coco Beach Club. Safety
• Responds to all incidents in a controlled and appropriate manner following departmental procedure.
• Reports any accidents, injuries, or incidents around the aquatic recreational facilities to the Lead.
• Performs rescue of Guests in danger of drowning and is alert to accidents.
• Administers First Aid, CPR, Oxygen, and AED as perceived training.
• Possesses knowledge of water attractions, pools, and enforces water safety rules and regulations.
• Reports unsafe or unsanitary condition of pool or attraction to the Lead Lifeguard or Assistant Manager.
• Opens and closes umbrellas as instructed to ensure safety of Guests and Team Members (during inclement weather).
• Sanitizes lifejackets daily, ensures all wipe and hand sanitizer dispensers are full and ready for Guests to use.
• Assists to clean PVI incidents (retrieval of fecal material from pools). Cleans birds and wildlife droppings off all pavers and pool decks.
• Monitors the weather and reports any adverse conditions (wind, rain, lightning). Follows closing procedures for all aquatic recreation facilities. Assists with crowd control on the Pier during inclement weather.
• Monitors the ocean conditions and to determine correct beach warning flags to display. Spots and responds to potentially hazardous marine life (jellyfish, stingrays, sharks etc.).
• Monitors the location and safety of Guests using rental equipment such as floating beach mats, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards.
• Assists with cleaning and maintenance before and after inclement weather, storm, hurricane.
• Assists with security matters (missing children, inappropriate Guest behavior, usage of unauthorized equipment)
• Conducts and documents daily inspections of slides, pools, attractions, floating cabanas, and emergency equipment. Reports any deficiencies to Lifeguard Leadership.
• Uses rescue kayaks, rescue boards, wave jets, stokes baskets and additional equipment to search for signs of life in guests who are snorkeling. Guest Experience
• Performs daily routine assignments and upkeep of aquatic recreational facilities on the Destination.
• Ensures the water attractions and pools are tidy, clean, safe, and set as per operating procedures.
• Maintains cleanliness and integrity of the assigned position.
• Acts professionally and always displays a positive attitude while engaging with Guests, Visitors, and Team Members.
• Adds furniture to Guest areas as required, arranges lounge chairs, tables, umbrellas into approved seating pattern.
• Wipes down tables and chairs, cleans and pressure washes umbrellas, lounge chairs, and in-water loungers.
• Assists to collects garbage during operation and at end of day. Ensures regular removal of garbage from Oasis Lagoon.
• Distributes new sand and picks up debris, rocks, shells around aquatic recreation facilities.
• Brushes and blows the sand off all pathways and paved areas, pressure washes algae off pathways and paved areas.
• Creates, installs, maintains, and cleans buoy lines, swim platforms and ladders.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• A High School Diploma or equivalent vocational training.
• Lifeguard experience and qualifications are required. Ability to swim and obtain Senior Lifeguard certification.
• Ability to work positively and cooperatively in a diverse international environment.
• Effective verbal communications skills.
