International Admission

At the College of Charleston, your student status will determine which application you will need to submit:

International First-Year Student: If you are entering university directly after secondary school.

International First-Year Application Requirements


Applying to the College of Charleston is easy. Highlighted in this section are the specific items you will need to provide to complete your application as an international student. 

1. Official Transcripts 

Submit your complete high school transcripts directly to College of Charleston in the original language with the school’s official stamp/seal.

2. Certified English Translation of Transcripts

If transcripts are written in a language other than English, certified, word-for-word English translations of all transcript pages must be submitted. 

3. English Proficiency

Please submit one of the following six exam scores directly to College of Charleston.  

  • Duolingo English Test with a minimum total score of 105
  • TOEFL iBT Test (code: 5113) minimum score of 80
  • IELTS Test with a minimum score of 6.5
  • iTEP Academic Plus with a minimum score of 3.8.
  • SAT (code: 5113) Evidence Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) minimum score of 500
  • ACT (code: 3846) minimum Reading score of 18 and minimum English score of 20

If English is your native language, you may qualify for an English proficiency waiver, please email international@cofc.edu to determine if you qualify.

4. Copy of Passport

A copy of your passport bio/photo page is required.

 

International Transfer Student

If you have completed secondary school and have taken additional coursework at one or more post-secondary institutions (colleges/universities)

INTERNATIONAL TRANSFER Application Requirements


Highlighted in this section are the specific items you will need to provide to complete your transfer application as an international student. 

1. Official Transcripts 

Read this section carefully to determine which application credentials you need to submit. 

If you have 12 or more U.S. college/university credits:

  • Official transcripts from all U.S. colleges/universities attended.

If you have 12 or more international college/university credits:

  • Official college/university transcripts from all institutions attended.
  • A course-by-course evaluation report of each of your transcripts must be submitted via one of our approved credential evaluation agencies. Our preferred agencies are Span Tran and IEE. Note, it is the responsibility of the applicant to request this evaluation and provide it to the College of Charleston as part of the admissions process for transfer credit to be granted.

If you have less than 12 credits of college/university course work from the U.S. or abroad:

  • Official high school transcripts from all schools attended in the original language with the school’s official stamp/seal.
  • If high school transcripts are written in a language other than English, certified, word-for-word English translations of all high school transcript pages must be submitted. 
  • Official college/university transcripts from each institution attended.
  • A course-by-course evaluation report of each of your transcripts must be submitted via one of our approved credential evaluation agencies. Visiting International Student 

If you plan to graduate from your home university, but wish to study abroad at the College of Charleston

International Visiting Student Checklist


Applying to the College of Charleston is easy. Highlighted in this section are the specific items you will need to provide to complete your visiting student application as an international student.

Unofficial Transcripts 

Submit a copy of your unofficial undergraduate transcript(s). Please include English translation if applicable.

English Proficiency

Please submit one of the following six exam scores directly to College of Charleston.

  3. IELTS Test with a minimum score of 6.5

Letter of Good Academic Standing

If you are currently enrolled in college/university, you must submit a letter indicating that you are in good academic standing. The letter should be written by a member of the International Student Services Office at your current college/university. Email your letter to:

Certificate of Finances

Please complete the certificate of finances form and provide supporting bank statements.
