Job Summary:

The Carpenter is responsible for measuring, cutting, and shaping wood, plastic, and other materials. The carpenter constructs and installs building frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframes and hardware. The carpenter inspects and replaces damaged framework or other structures and fixtures. Instruct and direct laborers and other construction helpers.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Carpenter is responsible for, but not limited to the following:

  • Hang drywall, assist with framing, and install wood, tile, and vinyl flooring.
  • Create detailed and accurate construction reports to update supervisor/manager on progress.
  • Follow strict timeline for projects, finishing on time,
  • Install, maintain, and repair a variety of products, ranging from cabinets to insulation to tile to drywall.
  • Perform work in accordance with safety best practices.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in safe operating condition.
  • Conduct building inspections and identify needed repairs.
  • Document repairs and maintain thorough records.
  • Cut, shape, and alter materials as needed.
  • Build doors, cabinets, and windows.
  • Measure and mark materials for alterations
  • Take reasonable care of your own health and safety.
  • Uphold environmental policies.
  • Assist with any other duties assigned by Management.

  

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or (GED) required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of general carpentry experience and completion of an apprenticeship, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

 

SKILLS & SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient with power tools for cutting, shaping, and joining wood together.
  • Have a keen eye for detail, understands the importance of safety.
  • Interpret blueprints accurately.
  • Specializes in woodworking.
  • Physical strength and communication 

 

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with employees and guests.
  • Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, managers, and co-workers. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Prolonged periods of standing and sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
  • All island employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills.
  • Full use/range of motion of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
  • Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
  • May be required to work shifts.
