Mooring Attendant

Job Summary: 

The Mooring attendant works at the port, and they are responsible to load and unload cargo. They are also responsible for preparing the docks for incoming ships and securing ships to moorings. This position will report to the Marine Operations Supervisor, Celebration Key.

  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Mooring Attendant is responsible for, but not limited to the following: 

  • Securing ships by tying them to the moorings.
  • Loading and unloading cargo using suitable material-handling equipment, such as forklifts, hand trucks, pallet jacks, cranes, power winches, and grain trimmers.
  • Inspecting the unloaded cargo for any damages or irregularities.
  • Tallying the unloaded cargo and inputting information onto spreadsheets required by management.
  • Communicating with other Dock Workers using handheld radios to ensure the safe loading and unloading of cargo.
  • Ensuring that the dock areas are clean and free of debris in order to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Assisting with the set up and break down of lounge chairs daily.
  • Assist with the pre ops and post ops clean up of the beach.

 

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • A valid forklift license.
  • Proven experience working as a dock worker.

 

SKILLS & SPECIFICATIONS: 

  • Excellent physical stamina.
  • The ability to operate heavy machinery.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented.

 

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with employees and guests.  
  • Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, managers, and co-workers. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Must be physically fit.
  • Must have strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and think critically.
  • Previous work experience preferred.  

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Prolonged periods standing and working outdoors.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
  • All island employees must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use/range of motion of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal and hearing abilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency.
