Director of Engineering is responsible for the engineering, maintenance, and appearance of the vessels in a manner that achieves safe and reliability service for our guests. Responsible for overseeing and assigning the daily projects and routine maintenance and janitorial services of vessels and facilities. Coordinates repairs and vessel schedules with COO and Management team. Communicates status of department work activities to COO and is responsible for organizing the work duties for the Engineers and Mechanics. Records assignments in appropriate programs and places with accuracy.
The ideal candidate for this role will be adaptable, dynamic, fully aligned with the vision, core values, code of conduct, and mission statement of Bahamas Ferries, and will possess strong leadership and strategic thinking abilities.
·Work with COO/CEO of the company to implement a safe and sustainable Engineering and Maintenance strategy.
·Monitors and ensures compliance with all state, federal and industry specific legislation and company standards set for all projects and daily operations.
·Evaluates operation of marine and facility equipment in multiple locations.
·Maintains and coordinates repair of marine machinery and equipment for installation on vessels to appropriate manufacture specifications.
·Reviews work requests and compare them with previous work completed on Vessels in order to ensure that costs are economically sound.
·Prepares technical reports for use by engineering, marine operations, and upper management.
·Procures materials needed to repair marine equipment and machinery.
·Acts as liaisons between vessels' Captains and Engineers/Mechanics in order to ensure that schedules and budgets are maintained, and that vessels are operated safely and efficiently.
·Checks, tests, and maintains automatic controls and alarm systems.
·Schedules machine overhauls and the servicing of electrical, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, water, and sewage systems.
·Works closely with HR and the Safety Manager & Training to ensure all certification and qualifications training is conducted for new hires and recurrently as set forth in the Training requirement matrix.
·Works closely with the HR to ensure all required regulatory and certification requirements remain current and such documentation is in the employee and training files.
·Is accountable for the completion, logging and documentation of inspections as set forth in SMS,
·Remains current with inspections and documentation for internal and 3rd party audits.
·Maintain and daily use of maintenance tracking and telemetry systems.
·Communicates with management team to ensure engineering systems and processes are aligned with company standards.
·Utilizes a systematic approach to Master documents. Logs, inspections, and records as part of system, and posts to Intranet in accordance with protocol set forth by management team in accordance with Bahamas Ferries standards.
·Responsible for retaining accurate paper-based and computer-based records of ongoing inspections and duties as they pertain to regulatory compliance
·Designs and oversees testing, installation, and repair of marine apparatus and equipment.
·Conducts analytical, environmental, and operational or performance studies in order to develop designs for products, such as marine engines, equipment, and structures.
·Analyzes data in order to determine feasibility of product proposals.
·Reviews work requests, and compare them with previous work completed on Vessels in order to ensure that costs are economically sound.
·Work with Special Projects Team on new vessel builds, equipment upgrades, vessel maintenance and repair including haul outs, major rehabs and equipment overhauls.
·Is accountable to manage and oversee all capital purchasing
·Accurately complete all documentation including payroll, time sheets, revenue reports, paperwork, and invoices on a timely basis.
·Know and understand internal policy and external regulatory requirements that relate to your position and department.
·Perform additional duties and take on alternate roles as directed by the COO or other executive management.
·B.S. in technical degree or equivalent Engineering Experience
·5-7 years of management experience
·Strong firsthand experience of vessel engineering and maintenance
·Customer service experience is helpful.
·Knowledge of foreign language is helpful
·Project management skills
·Advanced computer skills i.e., Windows, for utilizing reporting programs.
