International Admission Checklist

Below you will find a complete list of requirements for international first-year applicants. If you have any questions, please contact admission@pugetsound.edu or 1+ 253.879.3211.

Common Application

Complete the Common Application, including the essay and $65 (US) application fee, and submit your application online by the appropriate deadline.

Early Decision Agreement

Students applying Early Decision must also review and sign the terms of the agreement. You can submit the agreement electronically through the Common Application Member Questions section or print out a PDF version and mail or fax a copy to our office.

School Report and Transcript

The School Report gives us information about your school, your curriculum, and your performance. Complete your portion of this form and give to your school counselor or other administrator.

Please also arrange to have official transcripts of all work completed at the high school and/or college level forwarded directly from the institution(s) attended to the Puget Sound Office of Admission. Your high school counselor can submit your transcript with the School Report section of the Common Application. Students sitting for school certificates should request the Examination Board of Council to forward results directly to the university. Transcripts must be translated in English.

Counselor and Teacher Evaluation

We request one recommendation from a counselor or advisor at your current school and one from a teacher at your current school. The Counselor Evaluation and Teacher Evaluation forms should be completed and sent to Puget Sound by the recommender. If you do not have a counselor at your school, please have another school official such as a headmaster, principal, or advisor submit the evaluation on your behalf. Complete your portion of this form and give to your teacher. Submit electronically in the School Forms section of the Common Application.

Standardized Tests

  • English Proficiency: If the language of instruction in your high school is in English, you are exempt from establishing proof of English proficiency. Otherwise, you must submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Duolingo English Test. A minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL IBT, 6.5 on the IELTS, or 105 on the Duolingo English Test is recommended.
  • Admission: Puget Sound offers test-optional admission. Learn more about applying test-optional. If you would like to submit your test scores, you have the option to submit either the ACT or SAT. SAT Subject Tests are not required.

Puget Sound strongly recommends, but does not require, an interview through InitialView or Vericant. An unscripted interview allows you to discuss your unique education and personal background, helping us to get to know you better. InitialView and Vericant will conduct the interview and record the conversation so that it can be reviewed by our office. Alumni and admission officers may be also available to conduct interviews in-person or via Skype. Please contact admission@pugetsound.edu to find out more.

International Student Financial Statement

While not a required part of the application, all accepted international students (including Canadian students) must submit the College Board's International Student Certification of Finances if they plan to enroll. You can complete the PDF and submit it to the Office of Admission by email to admission@pugetsound.edu or fax at +1.253.879.3993.
