Job Title:          Assistant Director of Engineering

Reports To:     Director of Engineering

 Grand Hyatt at Baha Mar’s Assistant Director of Engineering will work together with the Director of Engineering to ensure the efficient and economic operation of the Engineering department in support of all other operating departments, supplying services as required to the entire operation, and maintaining equipment, building, and grounds in optimum condition.

 What you will also have already accomplished:

  • Associates degree/Certification in Engineering or a related technical field
  • 3 years+ of management experience in maintenance and/or engineering operations
  • Hospitality or casino resort related engineering experience preferred

Description of Responsibilities

 Grand Hyatt at Baha Mar’s Assistant Director of Engineering will work together with the Director of Engineering to ensure the efficient and economic operation of the Engineering department in support of all other operating departments, supplying services as required to the entire operation, and maintaining equipment, building, and grounds in optimum condition.   Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Report to the Director of Engineering any abnormal conditions with relation to life safety related equipment or situations
  • Supervise other Engineering associates
  • Perform, at least weekly, a routine inspection of all engineering operational areas (plant rooms) and report any equipment malfunctions to the Director of Engineering.
  • Control and verify all engineering log book entries
  • Supervise personally all hazardous work and ensure that all safety procedures are strictly observed
  • Monitor the implementation of all energy conservation procedures and report any irregularities and noncompliance to the Director of Engineering
  • Prepare monthly comparative utility consumption reports and keep constant survey of correct calibration of all utility recording instruments
  • Check timely completion of maintenance requests paying particular attention to guest related jobs
  • Prepare purchase requests and follow up with Materials Management
  • Assist the Director of Engineering with the preparation of planned preventive maintenance and guest room servicing procedures
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors to ensure compliance with specifications and the hotel's procedures regarding guest contact and safety
  • Coordinate the engineering and maintenance work with other hotel departments
  • Prepare and conduct energy conservation orientation training for new associates in cooperation with the Training Manager and follow up with refresher training classes as conditions warrant
  • Assist with the preparation and implementation of an Emergency Response Plan and the operation and maintenance of all life safety and security systems
  • Assist in monitoring and controlling closely all environmental awareness and protection programmes, to ensure adherence by all departments in the Hotel, notifying the Director of Engineering of areas that need improvement in environmentally responsible practices
  • Assist in ensuring that the property, its systems and the operational procedures comply with all the prevailing local and national codes, notifying the Director of Engineering of areas of non-compliance, if any
  • Assist the Director of Engineering in all matters related to the implementation of effective budget controls
  • Maximize associate productivity through the use of multi-skilling, multi-tasking and flexible scheduling to meet the financial goals of the business as well as the expectations of the guests
  • Perform other duties as assigned
