GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Security Officers are responsible to ensure a safe environment for the residents, employees or authorised visitors to any of the properties under its charge. Responsibilities include – but are not limited to - ensuring that the buildings, facilities, and grounds are not breached or vandalised by persons not authorised to be on the compound, or by intruders (vandals, breakers, etc.)

 

Duties of the Security Officer include – but are not limited to - patrolling and observing the activities of all persons in and around the property. Work involves assessing problem situations and utilising tact and judgement in ensuring swift resolution focused on providing high-quality service to the consumer. They are to document and report all incidents and activities that occur on the property during their shift.

 

Responsibility also includes controlling and monitoring access to the property of all persons who have a legitimate reason for being there. The Security Officer is also responsible for ensuring that buildings and facilities are secure and to note any signs of breaches, or attempted breaches.

 

SPECIFIC TASKS

 

  1. Patrol the property at scheduled intervals to prevent and detect signs of break‑ins and vandalism.
  2. Ensure that all doors, windows, and gates are properly locked and secured when required.
  3. Ensure that all lights and other electrical items are turned off when not in use.
  4. Answer alarms and investigate any disturbances on the property.
  5. Respond to requests for assistance by employees, residents, and visitors and take the appropriate action as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  6. Monitor and authorise entrance and departure all employees, residents, visitors and other persons to the property.
  7. Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorised persons, or unusual occurrences.
  8. Call the Police, Fire Department or Ambulance Department in cases of emergencies, such as fire, presence of unauthorised persons or when incidents occur.
  9. Conduct regular patrols of the property to act as a deterrent to unlawful entry, or to prevent incidents from occurring.
  10. Warn persons of breaches of rules, and evict violators from the property when necessary. Reasonable force may be utilised if required.
  11. Report breaches by employees, residents, or visitors.
  12. Operate metal detectors to screen individuals and prevent the passage of prohibited items in restricted areas.
  13. Assist with the management and monitoring of vehicles on the property.
  14. Prevent unauthorised access to restricted areas.
  15. Perform other duties that are required.
