The Public Treasury Department was established on the 21st March 1914 by an Act of Parliament making it the central accounting agency for the government of The Bahamas.

In 1964 The Bahamas obtained internal self-government under a new Constitution that allowed for the establishment of the ministerial system as we know it today. The Public Treasury Department was placed under the Ministry of Finance and has remained a Department under the Ministry of Finance to this present date.

Requirements   Applicants must possess:  “Associate’s Degree in Accounting (from an institution accredited for Government purposes) OR Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (from an institution accredited for Government’s purposes).”   Preference will be given to persons with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, but consideration will be given to persons with an Associate’s Degree in Accounting with strong prospects.   Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post include : Reconciling Vendors Accounts Processing Requisitions and Purchase Orders in the Treasury Financial Management System. Processing payments for Vendors Preparing Journal Vouchers and Appropriations Transfer Warrants for submissions to Treasury. Liaising with Travel Agencies relative to officers’ travel arrangements. Processing payments of travel subsistence, for officers travelling on Governments business to the Family Islands and abroad. Receiving and clearing Travel Expense Reports Distributing General / Office Supplies Assisting with processing of Weekly and Monthly Payroll Collecting and posting revenue in the Treasury Cash Receipting Systems.
