Job Summary Supports and participates in the health care of Atlantis’ marine animals, rescued wildlife and domestic, invasive or feral animal control. Establishes and conducts effective program of spay, neuter, vaccination for domestic, invasive or feral animals. Assists Director of Veterinary Medicine as requested. Fills-in as Staff Veterinarian under emergency conditions and when Staff Veterinarian is unable to respond to emergencies due to travel, illness, absence or other unforeseen circumstance. Assists with or conducts regularly scheduled preventative care programs to maintain the health of the animals and guard against communicable diseases. Participates with other personnel in planning and executing nutrition, quarantine, and reproductive programs. Participates in employee training regarding the proper handling and care of the animals. Conducts postmortem examinations and tissue sampling as requested. Assists Contract Veterinary staff as requested. Requirements Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited academic institution Must hold and maintain a valid veterinary license in the Bahamas; must be registered under the provisions of section 5 of the Veterinary Surgeons Act Minimum of two years of experience in veterinary medicine, marine mammal experience, particularly with cetaceans, preferred Scuba Certification preferred Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Assist with or perform clinical procedures, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and surgery as required. Demonstrate a strong knowledge of the biology, husbandry and medicine of exotic (non-domestic) animals in managed care environments Willingness to teach and explain complex medical procedures to the staff. Demonstrates leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills when conducting duties.
