Job Title: Legal Counsel The National Health Insurance Authority was established in The Bahamas in 2017 to facilitate the provision of accessible, affordable, equitable and quality healthcare services through a national insurance plan. The NHIA began providing services in April 2017. Opportunity The Legal Counsel, must be a dynamic leader and will manage and execute all legal activities and functions for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). The Legal Counsel is responsible for ongoing legal activities for the National Health Insurance Administrator (NHIA). The Legal Counsel will further support the CEO by providing feedback, reviewing legal disputes and consulting on fraud management. The Legal Counsel will establish an effective working relationship with the CEO, the other executives and other key internal and external stakeholders as necessary. Accountable and responsible for the providing of legal advice to NHIA Board of Directors and Executive Team. Responsible for advising and acting on any and all legal disputes Responsible for setting policy and standards for contracting. Overseeing contract management and administration Participates in the definition and development of corporate policies, procedures and programs and provides continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters and on legal implications of all matters Assumes overall responsibility for ensuring that the NHIA conducts its business in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations in the Bahamas If necessary, oversees the selection, retention, management and evaluation of all outside counsel Accountable and responsible for the planning and direction of all outside legal advisory Supports the executives and CEO with respect to Code of Conduct and internal ethics and conflict policies Advises the NHIA on legal and compliance matters Custodian of NHIA corporate seal Responsible for drafting, providing input and making necessary updates to provider and clinical contracts with the support of the current legal team Supports the Health Benefits and Provision unit with contracting providers and managing the contract Assists in investigation and management of theft, fraud and ethics cases, providing expert knowledge in the functional area Responsible for assisting with the drafting of legislature and regulations governing NHIA Minimum Education and Education Minimum Bachelor's degree in Law and Called to the Bahamas Bar Post-graduate degree or additional certificate preferred Minimum of 5 years' experience, preferably in a healthcare or insurance setting Only qualified candidates need apply and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
