There are two components in the design for a 3D printed quadruped robot that my company is working on that have structural weaknesses. There is connector component that connects two side flanges, and we are using heated inserts for those. But at the points where the heated inserts connect with the two side flanges on either side, the plastic is too little. So when inserted the heated insert the insert just rips through the plastic. That area needs to be thickened and fortified. There is another femur component that originally was intended to have a slider axis and a spring internally for motion. But as we discovered in 3D printing, the slider axis didn't move, the spring didn't fit, and this open area in the femur led to structural weakness near the connection to the servo motor.
